Dune 3, Denis Villeneuve will make the film under one condition!

Denis Villeneuve is already discussing the prospect of Dune 3 but has declared that he will make the film on only one condition: to guarantee a solid and complete script before proceeding with the project, which qualitatively surpasses even that of the second chapter. Only if the final result is “truly worthy”, will the director dedicate himself to a third chapter, not before taking a break from the Arrakis universe, after having shot the first two films consecutively.

In a recent interview with Empire, Villeneuve revealed that despite growing speculation about a possible Dune: Part Three, production on the film will not begin until a major obstacle has been faced and overcome. The director has made it clear that despite his initial desire to continue uninterrupted after the first film, he now believes it is wise to take a break. The priority, he stressed, is to ensure a solid and complete script before proceeding with the project. Here’s what he said:

“I thought it was a good idea to move on right after Part One. We were already planning, writing, etc. But that also meant that for six years I’ve been on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it’s healthy to take a little step back. First, we need to make sure we have a strong script. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I have never done it and now I feel it might be dangerous due to the enthusiasm. We need to make sure all ideas are on paper. If we go back, it has to be real, it has to be relevant, if I ever do Dune Messiah, [it’s] because it will be better than Part Two. Otherwise, I won’t do it.”

“We started planning, writing, etc., right after the first film,” Villeneuve explained, “But that also meant that for six years I was completely immersed in Arrakis, and I think it’s healthy to take a little step back. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I’ve never done it and now I feel like it might be dangerous because of the excitement.”

While the decision may come as a surprise given Villeneuve’s previous plans to turn Dune into a trilogy, it’s clear that the director places great value on the coherence and artistic excellence of the project as a whole. Additionally, considering the potential content of the third film, such as the deepening of Paul Atreides’ reign and the development of Zendaya’s Chani character, it seems that Villeneuve is determined not to rush anything.

The story of Dune: Part Three promises to be even more intense and engaging than its predecessors, with the possibility of exploring deeper themes and more intricate plots. However, there are logistical challenges to address, such as the time gap between films and maintaining the original cast.
